Ontario Building Code
Plumbing work must meet the Ontario Building Code. The 2024 Ontario Building Code came into effect on January 1, 2025. We obtain permits where required and complete work ready for inspection.
Backflow Prevention Program
Under Toronto’s Water Supply By-law, owners of industrial, commercial and institutional properties must install backflow prevention devices on their water supply lines. According to the City’s Backflow Prevention Program, devices must be tested at installation, after repairs or servicing, and at least once a year by a certified Cross Connection Control Specialist, and test records must be kept on site for at least seven years.
Sewers By-law and Wastewater Discharge
Toronto’s Sewers By-law (Municipal Code Chapter 681) limits what can be discharged into sanitary and storm sewers. Some businesses must prepare a Pollution Prevention (P2) Plan, and the City’s industrial waste control programs note that failure to comply can result in fines of up to $100,000 per day. Well-maintained drains, interceptors and catch basins help keep your discharge within the limits.
Spills to Sewers
